Jingle All the Way Tag

Can you believe we’re only ten days away from Christmas Eve? Things are getting pretty festive over here and so when I saw this tag from Our Favourite Jar, I knew I had to jump on the sleigh! Want to know about our Christmas traditions, memories, favourites and more? It’s all in here!

Where will you be celebrating Christmas this year?

We’ll be celebrating at home again! We call it “lazy Christmas” because we get to stay in our pyjamas all day and just chill out.

Who are you celebrating with?

It’ll be me, Matt, Mini and of course, our guinea pigs.

Do you own any ugly Christmas jumpers?

I’m more of a pretty Christmas jumper kind of gal. My favourite is a black and white reindeer one I bought from Forever 21 a few years back.

How do you spend Christmas Eve?

We take a very laid-back approach to Christmas Eve so it’ll be spent chilling, watching movies and eating food together.

When do you put up your decorations?

Usually the last weekend of November but it’s been a little bit earlier than that for the last few years because of other things we’ve had going on. This year we did it on the 16th of November because we wanted to be able to come home from Disneyland Paris to an already festive living space.

Do you have a decorating theme?

There isn’t a particular theme but my “office” tree is white with colour pops and our family tree is the traditional red, green and gold.

Do you have a tree topper?

Yes! I have a beautiful gold star on top of my tree and we have a pretty basic red glitter star on top of the family tree.

What’s been your least favourite gift that you have received?

I honestly couldn’t tell you because I have no idea.

What would you like to find in your stocking this year?

I’d like to find some stationery, chocolate and the odd novelty gift!

When did you start buying gifts this year?

Don’t hate me for this but probably around Christmas last year. We were finished by September and everything was wrapped and ready to go in November. It’s all part of my strategy to have a stress-free Christmas.

Have you ever recycled a gift?

Probably… I know it’s such a horrible thing to do when someone has been thoughtful enough to get you said gift but let’s be real, we’d all end up as hoarders if we kept every unwanted gift. In these cases, we’d likely donate unwanted gifts to a charity shop so that it can benefit as many people as possible.

What’s your favourite Christmas food?

How do you even choose? That’s an impossible question. If Matt is making his special roast potatoes then definitely those but if he’s not, probably the yorkshire puddings. Matt agrees.

What do you leave out for Santa?

To be honest, we haven’t left anything out for Santa over the last few years because Mini’s still a bit too little to understand and we don’t want to be wasteful. We might leave out a carrot for the reindeer this year which will then be shared between our guinea pigs and for Santa, we’ll put out whatever Matt fancies eating I guess.

Have you ever been carolling?

Probably but I can’t really remember.

What do you usually have for Christmas dinner?

We have a meat (usually turkey), some roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, pigs in blankets and a hearty amount of veg. There may, or may not, be a yule log waiting for us at the end.

When do you open gifts?

First thing in the morning after opening our stockings.

How do you spend Boxing day?

Again, pretty chilled. More movies, more food, more family time. We might pop out for a walk if the weather is decent.

Describe a Christmas present you wanted badly as a kid, but never received

Like Claire from Our Favourite Jar, I also spent my childhood dreaming of a Mr Frosty that never came. It was always so heavily advertised around Christmas time so it always made my list but I do understand that it’s not the most appealing gift from a parent’s perspective.

Have you ever kissed anyone under the mistletoe?

I believe Matt and I have but I couldn’t tell you the where or the when. We don’t have mistletoe at home so it would have been while out and about – maybe in the shopping centre in Romford?

What’s your favourite character from a Christmas-themed movie, book, or TV special?

Can I say Gonzo as Charles Dickens and Rizzo the Rat as himself?

If you were Santa Claus, what treats would you want to be left out for you on Christmas Eve?

Chocolates and something savoury to balance out the sweetness – maybe some Pringles?

What’s your favourite Christmas movie?

My favourite Christmas movie is The Santa Clause! What a classic.

Have you ever had a White Christmas?

I believe I have twice. The first was as a toddler and the second was in early adulthood but I couldn’t give you any specifics.

Where do you usually spend your holidays?

At home with Matt and Mini.

What is your favourite Christmas song?

Another tough one and I have three answers, broken down by type…

Favourite popular Christmas song: Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea

Favourite Christmas song from a film: One Night One Moment by Nativity Cast

Favourite alternative Christmas song: Ho Ho Hopefully by The Maine

You can listen to these songs and many many more by checking out my Christmas playlist!

Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?

As a kid, we used to be allowed to open one present on Christmas Eve but now we just open our Christmas Eve box instead.

Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer? (No cheating!)

Donner, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Blitzen, Rudolph… I’m missing at least one!

Which holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?

We’re going to visit the Runton Road Christmas lights again this year which is truly magical. The houses on the street (mostly) all come together to deck their halls with these incredible displays and raise money for charity. They’ve been doing it for over twenty years! And since it’s probably our last Christmas here in Bournemouth, we don’t want to miss our final chance to see them.

Otherwise, I think that Mini might be more aware of the whole Christmas thing this year so that will be fun.

Is your Christmas tree real or fake?

It’s fake, it’s always fake. Real trees look so pretty but they also make a lot of mess and life is messy enough if you ask me.

What is your favourite holiday treat/sweet/food?

I’m going with a Yule log or Frosted Fancies!

Be honest, do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?

I really like giving gifts which is why I spend 8 months of the year making lists, checking them twice and making sure everyone’s got something nice. (I do obviously enjoy receiving gifts too.)

What is the best Christmas present that you have ever received?

Can I be super cheesy here and say Mini? Christmas 2016 was pretty bleak and melancholy as we’d only recently suffered from two miscarriages and all we wanted for the following year was a baby. Mini was born at the start of December 2017 so while he’s not a Christmas baby, he was a very much wished for Christmas present.

What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?

Quebec, Canada – it’s absolutely beautiful and super Christmas-y! (Lapland would be a very close second though.)

Are you a pro wrapper or do you fail miserably?

Somewhere in between? My wrapping game has certainly been helped by YouTube videos and wrapping hacks so I’m not as bad as I was but there’s definitely room for improvement.

Most memorable Christmas moment?

I actually have two most memorable Christmas moments that I’d like to share:

On Christmas Eve ’17, Mini slept mostly through the night for the very first time at three weeks old.

On Christmas Eve ’18, Mini decided he didn’t want to sleep. He woke up at 2am and wouldn’t go back to sleep until we’d opened all the gifts.

I won’t tell you about the Monopoly incident but let’s be honest, you can probably guess what went down…

What made you realise the truth about Santa?

I don’t really remember. But if I’m completely honest, I still believe in the magic of Santa.

What makes the holidays special for you?

That fuzzy warm feeling you get when you’re snuggled up with your family on the sofa, munching on Twiglets and chocolates and watching movies.

So there you have it! If this tag post has left you feeling festive, why not give it a go yourself? And if you do, make sure you let me know so I can give it a read!
